As industries advanced and the Port of Los Angeles grew, the natural beauty and climate in the surrounding areas became increasingly attractive to wealthy settlers, businessmen and entertainers.
Many of the beach communities, which started as “tent cities” for immigrant workers, became small thriving communities by the end of 1912. Now, an area once hosting the hands that built this nation, is one of the most lush and vibrant areas on Earth.
One walk along The Strand in the beach cities and you’ll see a Postmodern work of art standing tall next to an exotic and colorful Spanish style home. Further up the dunes, down the beach, beyond the cliffs are winding streets of sturdy, proud Craftsman homes, and breezy, comfortable California Bungalows.
Long Beach is home to sprawling Victorians like the classic Bembridge House, Craftsman Bungalows, Spanish & Tudor Revivals, and the Cliff May Ranchos known for their light and openness. Palm trees line street after winding street. The sunsets are amazing from the bluffs. Through the years, people of vision have left their mark in these exquisite homes.
And for the avid beachcomber there are secluded beaches in the area that few people ever get to visit.
For instance, the lovely Shaw’s Cove, just south of Laguna Beach, is gorgeous and often empty.
The San Clemente Bluffs are always gorgeous — the water is electric and clear. But imagine having your own stretch of beach to call home?
