As we fight our way
through the June gloom, every Long
Beach citizen is looking forward to the
sunshine that summer brings. You will surely find many LBC citizens running on the beach path, biking in the city’s newly
designated bike lanes, walking the peninsula, or
skateboarding through the hills of the coastal community of Belmont
Heights. Some even like to Stroll in Savor the
delectable goodness that Belmont Shore 2nd Street restaurants have to offer.
To beat the heat catch a
flick at Cinemark at the Pike, enjoy an ice-cold beverage while watching the
amazingly talented and funny musicians at Sargent Peppers, or bask in the
sunset as you indulge on inexpensive happy hour drinks
and appetizers at Parker’s Light House.
Another area of Long Beach California that always
has a fun crowd during the summer months is First Fridays in Bixby
Knolls. Cruise up and down Atlantic Avenue while
enjoying tunes of a local band and stopping by booths to check out handmade items
or teasers from local shops. This is definitely a low cost fun way to spend a
night in Long Beach and definitely an item on the list of Things to do in Long
Beach, CA!
Taking it to the eastside
of the LBC check
out El Dorado Park. There is an
abundance of activities that take place there. Shoot bows and arrows at the all
ages archery range. Test your frisbee skills on the frisbee golf course.
Kids can ride the miniature train, shred in the skate park, enjoy a
game of softball/baseball on the fields, cook s’mores at the youth campground,
enjoy sailing model boats at the launch, and explore at the nature center. The
main attraction and surely an item on a golfers Things to do in Long Beach list
is the El Dorado Golf Course.
Previously this course was the site of the Queen Mary Open. It is currently
home to the $160,000 Long Beach Open. This event is considered one of the best
non-PGA Tour professional events in the United States. This player’s course is
an expansive 18-hole layout with hundreds of mature trees and numerous water
hazards.
Exploring Naples canals
on foot, by boat, or gondola is another way to explore Long Beach. The canals
are lined with beautiful waterfront homes that have boat docks and expansive
views. Naples is comprised of 3 manmade islands that were constructed by Arthur
Parsons to create the feel of Naples, Italy. Gondoliers propel gondolas through
the canals under the stars for lovers, friends, and families. Kayaking through
the canals, Alamitos Bay, and past Bay Shore Beach is a great way to spend a
sunny day on the water.
Everything I have talked
about gives you is just the tip of the iceberg. There are hundreds of Things to
do in Long Beach! Stay tuned to find out some more awesome places to visit and
spend your sunny days.
